So, do we have an accurate bbl. here? I'm going to go out on
a limb here and say yes. Personally, for a first attempt at
barrel making I was impressed and honestly believe that this
barrel will be even more accurate after future use. One could
take this Bbl./Cal. out on a rat shoot and comfortably shoot it
all day, non-stop.
We had a blast testing this Bbl. and drew quite a crowd at the
range. I think the best part of all tho was sitting down next to
the rifle shooters and out shooting them, with a HandGun!!
I'm already looking for some more ammo and plan on a test with a
6.5x 20 leupold target scope, recoil is not a factor with the 17
HMR so eye relief isn't important.
Hornady is making some fine ammo here for sure. The only
problems I have with it are...
1. It's pretty spendy and..
2. You can't reload it.
Perhaps when production is up 100% the price will come down a bit
but, it still kills me to throw that brass away.
NOTE: I'm going to get a 17K Hornet SOON.
MPro-7 works, it helps to have a fine bore to begin with but I
use it on all my bbls. with the same results, once a bbl. has
been 'conditioned' cleaning is a snap. Our cleaning regime during
this test consisted of.
1. Filling the bore with MPro-7 (1-2 pumps)
2. 5 strokes with a nylon or bronze brush
3. Set 15 min.
4. Patch out (We never needed more than 5)
5. 2-3 drops of oil on a patch and pushed thru on a jag, (this
was done after the 1st 5 shots and again every 15 shots)
NOTE: 17 cal equipment is tiny and I highly reccomend a bore
guide.
